Touch of Taize tonight in Kailua

Christ Church Uniting Disciples and Presbyterians in Kailua is holding a candlelight Taize-style service at 7 tonight.

The 40-minute service includes singing, harp and classical guitar.

BHUTANESE MONKS CELEBRATE UNIFIER

Five Bhutanese monks, serving as spiritual guardians at the Honolulu Academy of Arts' "The Dragon's Gift: The Sacred Arts of Bhutan," will perform puja (rituals) at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Tuesday to Friday in a special altar room.

On Tuesday, Phub Tenzin, Sherab Dorji, Lhab Tshering, Kinley Tenzin and Sangay Rinchen will observe Zhabdrung Kuchoe, a national holiday in Bhutan that celebrates the life and achievements of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, the 17th-century unifier of Bhutan. The monks will have an afternoon tea at 2:30 p.m.

BUDDHISM, TIBET UP FOR DISCUSSION

The issues of Tibetan Buddhism, religious rights, human rights and social justice will be part of a discussion on why the Buddhist religion is attacked and Tibetan cultures are suppressed, to be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Chaminade University's Ching Conference Center, Eiben Hall second floor.

PRAYER BREAKFAST FRIDAY AT HILTON

The Hawai'i Prayer Breakfast will be at 7 a.m. Friday at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Coral Ballroom.

Former U.N. ambassador Tony Hall, three times nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, will speak.

An inspirational forum will follow at 9 a.m., with Gary Okino, Ruby Ovitt, Pastor Norman Nakanishi, UH football player Solomon Elimimian and Richard and Lynda Perez.

POLITE TALK ABOUT RELIGION, POLITICS

U.S. Rep. Neil Abercrombie, Puanani Burgess, Pastor Allen Cardines, Cameron Kubota and Ryan Nakasone will discuss "Religion & Politics: Polite Conversations" at 10 a.m. April 19 at Central Union Church.

SHRINE HOLDING PET BLESSING

Hawaii Kotohira Jinsha-Hawaii Dazaifu Tenmangu, the Shinto shrine at 1239 Olomea St., will hold a pet blessing festival, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 1.

There will be "Pet Shave Ice," topped with Iams-flavored sauce and a treat in dog and cat flavors.
