It's hard to read Lee Cataluna's Friday column without getting a serious lump in your throat. One of the groups affected by the ATA closure included counselors and staff of Camp Taylor, a camp for kids with heart defects.

They need to raise $18,000 to replace their now worthless airline tickets. They only have a few weeks to do so, to get camp staff from California to Hawai'i for the cherished summer camp.

Families of the campers in Hawai'i won't give up hope. They're having a garage sale fundraiser today in Mililani.

The camp was brought to Hawai'i via Kardiac Kids, a support group for families of children with heart defects. Camp Taylor, which will be at Camp Mokule'ia in June, pairs the younger children with teens who have similar heart conditions; the teens serve as mentors, providing comfort and strength.

So today, take a minute to make a difference. Check out the Mililani sale and drop off a check. There's even entertainment planned: "We have a dance group called the Mini Heartbeats. It's made up of heart kids and their siblings. Every time someone gives a donation, our kids are going to sing the camp song!" says parent Julie Passos.
