Honolulu arraignments set for murder, rape suspects

Advertiser Staff

Two men — one accused of murder and the other first-degree sex assault — will be arraigned tomorrow at Circuit Court.

Patrick W. Deguair Jr., 30, and Noriaki Saito, a 27-year-old citizen of Japan, were both indicted Wednesday and are being held in lieu of $1 million and $50,000 bail, respectively, at the O'ahu Community Correctional Center.

Deguair, represented by attorney Michael Green, is expected to plead not guilty to shooting Jermaine Michael Duckworth, 24, whose body was found below a cliff at Keawa'ula (Yokohama Bay) on March 27. In addition to second-degree murder, he is charged with kidnapping, use of a prohibited weapon (silencer), and two firearms-related offenses.

Deguair is also charged with third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug and paraphernalia unrelated to the homicide charge.

Saito, 27, will be arraigned tomorrow on two counts of first-degree sex assault and one count of third-degree sex assault on a 21-year-old woman on March 17.
