Big Island roadwork announced

The State Department of Transportation has announced the following construction projects this week for roads on the Big Island.

MAMALAHOA HIGHWAY (ROUTE 190)

WEST OF PUUANAHULU

Single lane closures in both directions between Mile Point 21.5 and Mile Point 27.6, west of Puuanahulu through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., daily, for slope excavations and shoulder widening.

QUEEN KAAHUMANU HIGHWAY

WIDENING PROJECT, PHASE I

Modified traffic pattern in both directions from Palani Road to Makala Boulevard through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., daily, for lane surfacing. Traffic lanes in both directions will remain open during this work.

HAWAII BELT ROAD (ROUTE 19)

NEAR PAAUILO

Single lane closures in alternating directions near Paauilo. One lane at a time will be closed from Hauola Road (near Mile Point 33) to the Kaala Bridge (near Mile Point 36) through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., daily, for shoulder lane resurfacing and guardrail installations.

During this closure, traffic will be contraflowed in the remaining open lane.

NEAR NINOLE

24-hour single lane closure in the eastbound direction near Ninole, approximately one-quarter mile west of Miller Road, near Mile Point 19.3, for culvert repair work.

During this closure, traffic will be controlled by temporary traffic signals and contraflowed in the remaining open lane. Completion of this project is anticipated in May 2008.

VOLCANO ROAD (ROUTE 11)

NEAR PAAUILO

Single lane closure on Volcano Road (Route 11) in alternating directions from Pszyk Road near Mile Point 14.7) to Glenwood Road (near Mile Point 20.5) through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., daily, for tree-trimming and landscaping work.

Completion of this project is anticipated by the end of April 2008.
