PA'IA
$5M released for school's new cafeteria building

Gov. Linda Lingle yesterday released $5 million for the design and construction of a new cafeteria building at Pa'ia Elementary School.

Students have been eating in the room used by the After-School Plus Program since 2005, when fire destroyed the previous cafeteria.

The money is for design, construction, kitchen equipment and cafeteria furniture. Additional project costs will be covered by an insurance settlement received by the state Department of Education of about $465,000.

Design is scheduled to begin in Aug. 2008 and be completed in June 2009. Construction is scheduled to begin in Sept. 2009 and be completed in Nov. 2010.
