Who says depression and anger can't lead to success? The California-based Say Anything and frontman Max Bemis, on tour to support their latest CD, "In Defense of the Genre," takes the Pipeline Cafe stage at 8 tonight for an all-ages show that is certain to up their MySpace friend count by a horde of screaming Island girls. Emo, yes, but the band is also adding to its friend count with critics and critical listeners. Like Blender says, "Bemis nuttily injects R&B thump, techno throb, Queen-style chanting and folkie mandolin into his emo." Get tickets, $22 to $50, at Ticketmaster outlets, www.ticketmaster.com or at 877-750-4400.

FINAL WORD

"Everything I do is never done. It's like, OK, did you do your best here? No. Was that your best at the moment? Yes. OK, then, let it go. Let's go on to the next one and be better."
