FOOD, MUSIC AND MORE AT 'TASTE'

Some of Hawai'i's finest chefs and restaurants are gearing up for Taste of East O'ahu. The annual event, set for 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Calvary by the Sea Church, will feature 'ono grinds from Assaggio Hawai'i Kai, Chai's Island Bistro, Roy's Hawai'i Kai — with Roy Yamaguchi himself serving tastings of his "Hawaiian Fusion Cuisine" — and more. HASR Wine Co. will offer samples of a variety of wines and beers. Entertainment will be provided by Jon Osorio and Stephen Brown, Swingin' Tradewinds Jazz Band and Rosanna Perch. Proceeds will go to the Angel Network, CBTS Montessori Preschool and Youth of CBTS. Tickets: $50; 10-seat "VIP tables," $1,000; Mauka reserved tables, $650. LCC HOSTS GALA PREVIEW WITH ROY YAMAGUCHI

Leeward Community College Culinary Arts Program students will work alongside chef Roy Yamaguchi on Friday at a dining event dubbed "A Prelude to L'ulu," LCC's culinary arts gala — the program's annual fundraiser, set for May 10.

The menu for Friday's prelude event, which starts at 6 p.m. in LCC's Pearl dining room, features: local 'ahi poke on crispy rice with quail egg, Kona crab salad with baby frisee, Big Island hearts of palm and Nalo Farms greens, green tea macadamia nut praline tart and coconut ice cream, among other offerings.
