KANE'OHE
Kulana Nani Apartments will get new $1.4M roof

The city will spend $1.4 million to replace the roof of the city-owned Kulana Nani Apartments in Kane'ohe.

The work will be done in two phases. Plans call for completely replacing the roofs of buildings D, F and H and the laundry rooms, which is expected to take 60 days to complete. This phase has been awarded at $568,000, the city said in a news release.

The second phase will involve similar work for buildings A, B, C, E and G and is estimated to cost $900,000. The city will advertise for bids from contractors in May, and construction is expected to start in December 2008.

The facility is one of several city-owned public housing complexes the city intends to sell.

The city has spent $6.3 million for Kulana Nani work in recent years, including this project. Other projects include roof replacements for other buildings, elevator improvements and emergency sewer repairs.
