Lahaina pool fixed, reopened

Advertiser Staff

LAHAINA, MAUI -- The main 50-meter pool at the Lahaina Aquatics Center was reopened today after County Aquatics staff identified and repaired a failing filter unit, the Department of Parks and Recreation announced today.

After being checked by pool staff, the clarity and chemical balance of the pool water was determined to be at proper levels.

"We will continue to make additional repairs to the pool's filter system, but were intent on making an immediate fix so the pool could be reopened for public use as quickly as possible," said Malcolm Cooper, Acting Aquatics Division Chief. "While these repairs will stabilize the aging system for a time, the Aquatics Division will pursue a parallel effort with the Parks Planning and Development Division to replace the system."

The pool had been closed Tuesday due to leaking in a bank of multiple filters, underscoring efforts already underway to prepare a request for bids to repair and replace affected parts and equipment.
