Cause of death not established yet in Kauai case

Advertiser Staff

WAIMEA, Kaua'i – An autopsy on a man whose body was found Wednesday morning in a burned van at the Russian Fort in Waimea showed the man had no injuries that would confirm foul play was involved in his death, Kaua'i officials said yesterday.

Police are hoping that a final determination on the cause of his death will be made upon the completion of a toxicology report, which is expected in a few weeks.

A tentative identification of the man has been made, but is not being released by police at this time.

Investigators are eager to talk to anyone who was in the area when the incident occurred. Calls should be directed to Detective Patrick Balbarino at 808-241-1684; police dispatch at 808-247-1711; or Crime Stoppers at 808-241-1887.
