Nevada scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning to rally past Hawai'i, 4-3, in tonight's second game to earn a split of a Western Athletic Conference doubleheader at Les Murakami Stadium.

The Rainbows won the first game, 13-3, in seven innings. The series concludes at 1:05 p.m. tomorrow.

Brock Stassi went seven-plus innings, allowing three runs and 10 hits with five strikeouts for the Wolf Pack (21-17 overall, 9-6 WAC). Mario Rivera pitched two perfect innings for his first save.

Alex Bates made his second start of the season, but was limited to four innings, allowing two runs and four hits with five strikeouts. Cory Kahn allowed two runs in 4 1/3 innings with four strikeouts. Jayson Kramer went 1 1/3 innings. Sam Spangler pitched a third of an inning for the Rainbows (18-22, 10-9).

The Wolf Pack took a 1-0 lead without batting ball out of the infield in the first. Jason Sadoian reached on a chop single to third and took second on Matt Bowman's single to third. Both advanced on sacrifice by Jason Rodriguez, who reached safely on when Bate's wide throw pulled first baseman Kevin Macdonald off the bag. With the bases loaded, Shaun Kort grounded to second for a double play to score Sadoian.

The Rainbows tied it in the bottom of the second. Vinnie Catricala singled with one, took second on Greg Garcia's chop single to right and scored on Landon Hernandez's ground single to center.

Nevada regained the lead in the fourth. Kort singled to start the inning and Terry Walsh was hit by a pitch. Both runners advanced on Mike Hale's sacrifice. David Ciarlo struck out, but Kort scored on a balk before Travis Simas struck out, but the Wolf Pack took a 2-1 lead.

The Rainbows took the lead in the fifth. With one out, Kevin Fujii singled and took third on Brandon Haislet's double to center. But after a series of throws to catch runners, an errant throw to third by the catcher allowed Fujii to score and Haislet to take third to tie the game at 2. With the infield drawn in, DuPree was called out on strikes for the second out. But Hee singled to left-center to score Haislet to give UH a 3-2 lead.

The Wolf Pack took a 4-3 lead in the eighth inning. Bowman walked with one out against Kahn and scored on Rodriguez's double to left to tie the game at 3. After a 1-0 count on Kort, Kahn was pulled for Jayson Kramer. Kort reached on a single to short as Rodriguez stopped at third. Rodriguez scored on Terry Walsh's fielder's choice groudner to first, where Macdonald's wild throw allowed the Kort to take third and Walsh to take second. Hale was intentionally walked to load the bases. With the infield drawn in, David Ciarlo grounded into a fielder's choice grounder to short that got Kort at home and reload the bases. Pinch hitter Waylen Sing Chow flied out to left

to end the inning.
