Indulge in art at Art on the Block and Family Sunday

Advertiser Staff

Arts lovers have a big weekend ahead:

  • The city's Art on the Block event is happening from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Frank F. Fasi Civic Center grounds. Besides lots of art — photography, jewelry, woodturning, lamps and furniture, painting — there are food booths and entertainment all day long.

The event is free, in celebration of the Honolulu Commission on Culture and the Arts' 40th anniversary.

  • Tomorrow's Bank of Hawaii Family Sunday at the Honolulu Academy of Arts is all about green — the color and the Earth-friendly lifestyle. Among the attractions: Mark Chai will show how he turns discarded items into works of art, and there will be a basket-weaving demonstration by Happy Tamanaka.

It's free. Hours are from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. And if you still haven't seen the exhibit "The Dragon's Gift: The Sacred Arts of Bhutan," admission is $10. 532-8700.
