The 17th annual Honolulu AIDS Walk, held today at Kapi'olani Park, raised $210,000 to support Life Foundation, a local organization dedicated to fighting AIDS in Hawaii and the Pacific, officials said.

The walk was attended by more than 3,000 participants, said Melanie Moore

of the Life Foundation. Both the fundraising total and the walker participation was a record number for the event. Last year, the event had 2,000 walkers and raised $175,000.

The Honolulu AIDS Walk is the largest AIDS public awareness event in the state. Walkers ask friends and family to support their participation, raising funds for Life Foundation. Life Foundation provides services to more than 700 HIV positive men, women and children while offering free HIV testing and education to the community. The money the walkers raise will go to support these programs.
