A Chinatown burglary suspect who attempted to flee from police by jumping into Honolulu Harbor early Thursday morning was charged Friday with allegedly breaking into a store.

Anh Loi Nguyen, 36, who has no permanent local address, was being held today at main police station cellblock in lieu of $15,000 bail. His initial appearance is tomorrow at District Court.

Nguyen allegedly ran out the front door of an unnamed convenience store when police arrived to investigate an alarm call. Police chased him on foot but Nguyen jumped into the water near the Nu'uanu Stream outlet to Honolulu Harbor at about 1:45 a.m. Police arrested him with assistance of the Honolulu Fire Department's boat.

Nguyen has five convictions.
