Kauai roadwork expected to delay traffic

The state Department of Transportation expects intermittent delays of no more than fifteen minutes while road work is being done in both directions on Kaumualii Highway

. Crews will be working from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., daily, during construction activities at the following locations:

  • In Lihue, near Rice Street for slope stabilization of the hillside adjacent to the highway. Completion of this project is anticipated in April 2008.

  • In Koloa, approximately one mile east of Maluhia Road, near Mile Post 5.7, for shoulder improvements. Completion of this project is anticipated in May 2008.

  • East of Piko Road Intersection, near Mile Post 9.8. Lanes in both directions will be narrowed for contract work on the highway. The section is anticipated to be complete by May 2008.

  • In Kalaheo, between Lauoho Road and Hokua Road near the Kalaheo Jelly Factory for drainage and shoulder lane improvements. Completion of this project is anticipated in June 2008.

  • In Kalaheo, near Hokua Road for improvements to acceleration, deceleration and shoulder lanes. Completion of this project is anticipated in June 2008.

    Roadwork is weather-permitting.
