Scott Ishikawa, an accessible link between media and the public who provided timely information in crisis situations, is leaving his position as state Department of Transportation spokesman next month to become a vice president for Bright Light Marketing Group.

Ishikawa handled the Kaua'i dam break, Castle Juction and Waimea rockslides, 40 days of rains in March 2006, 'Aiea pedestrian overpass accident, and critical highway, harbor and airport-related incidents during his five years as DOT spokesman.

Being on call 24/7 took its toll, says Ishikawa, who believes his new job will allow for more time with his family.

"Five years, 24/7 is the shelf life for this position," said Ishikawa, who celebrates his 40th birthday in June. "It was one of the most challenging jobs I've ever taken on but also the most fulfilling when projects and goals got done."
