MAUI
Public comment sought in police reaccreditation

The Maui Police Department is offering its employees and the public a chance to comment on police services as part of a voluntary reaccreditation process.

A team from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc. will be on Maui from April 27 to May 1 to conduct an on-site assessment that will include review of MPD documents, interviews and visits to all six police districts, according to Lt. Ricky Uedoi, the department's accreditation program manager.

MPD was first accredited in 1996 and undergoes reaccreditation every three years.

The public and employees can speak with assessors from 1 to 3 p.m. April 28 by calling 244-6306 or toll-free 1-888-626-8883. Calls will not be recorded and should address MPD's ability to comply with commission standards. A copy of the standards is available for review at all police stations.

Written comments may be mailed to: Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc., 10302 Eaton Place, Suite 100, Fairfax, VA 22030-2215.

For further information, call Uedoi at 244-6446.
