Robinson hits record 39th homer in UH softball loss

Advertiser Staff

Senior Kate Robinson broke the University of Hawai'i career home run record, but the Rainbow Wahine fell to Nevada, 13-10, yesterday as the Wolf Pack completed a three-game Western Athletic Conference softball sweep at Reno, Nevada.

It marked the first time No. 24 Nevada swept No. 18 Hawai'i, which dropped from first place to third in the WAC following its loss on Saturday.

Hawai'i (31-14, 7-4 WAC) led 8-7 in the top of the fifth, but the conference-leading Wolf Pack (32-14, 10-2) took control with five runs in the bottom frame.

Robinson's two-run home run, the 39th of her career and 16th this season, pulled Hawai'i to 12-10 in the sixth.

UH's Richie-Anne Titcomb hit a two-run home run in the second inning.

UH-HILO FALLS ON ROAD

Corey Weglin pitched six strong innings and 'Aiea alum Taylor Watanabe batted 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs as Sacramento State beat Hawai'i-Hilo, 8-2, yesterday in a non-conference baseball game at Sacramento, Calif.

Weglin (1-2) allowed seven hits and one unearned run, while striking out one.

Michael Higa and Dayne Ogawa had two hits each for UH-Hilo (13-21). David Flores and Gabe Jacobo had three hits apiece for Sac State (19-18).

DIVISION II SOFTBALL

CU WINS ON BIG ISLAND

Chasity Senas scored the winning run on two consecutive throwing errors in the bottom of the seventh inning as Chaminade defeated Hawai'i-Hilo, 5-4, yesterday in a Pacific West Conference women's softball game at Carvalho Park.

With one out in the seventh, Senas singled to center, took second on a throwing error by the center fielder, and scored when the second baseman made an errant throw on a ball hit by Iwalani Yamaguchi.

Lauren Holmes and Sipau Lee-Noa had four hits apiece for UH-Hilo (9-13 overall, 8-9 PacWest). Ahina Quaranto drove in two runs for Chaminade (12-30, 5-16).

The teams were scheduled to play a triple-header yesterday, but played only one because of bad weather.
