Help needed for Ala Wai Canal cleanup

Advertiser Staff

The Surfrider Foundation O'ahu Chapter will clean up Ala Wai Canal and park on Sunday.

The event is one of several chapter activities to mark Earth Day. The cleanup is intended to raise awareness about how polluted the Ala Wai has become.

"It is ironic and sad that the canal is now a dirty disgrace," said O'ahu Chapter co-chair Scott Werny.

The public is invited to help out in the cleanup.

To participate, meet at the Ala Wai Neighborhood Park, next to Ala Wai Elementary, at 9 a.m. Sunday.

Gloves and bags will provided, along with refreshments and prizes.

For more information, go to www.surfrider.org/oahu or call 531-SURF (7873).
