NU'UANU
Catfish back in season at reservoir as of May 31

Applications for fishing permits in Nu'uanu Reservoir No. 4 will be available starting Monday.

The reservoir will be re-opened for weekend catfish fishing on May 31, after being closed since January.

Those who want to catch the stocked catfish need both a reservoir permit and a Hawai'i game fishing license.

The deadline to apply for the permit is May 16.

To minimize overcrowding at the reservoir, a drawing will be held to assign each permit holder a fishing date and time. Fishing will start on May 31, and continue on consecutive weekends until all anglers have been accommodated.

Last year, about 7,100 anglers participated in the summer program and caught more than 3,700 catfish.

The bag limit is two catfish per angler.

To get a permit application, go to the DLNR's Aquatic Resources Division at 1151 Punchbowl St., room 330.
