Baseball: Red Sox's curse jersey sells for $175,100

Associated Press

BOSTON — The Boston Red Sox jersey secretly buried under the new Yankee Stadium in an attempt to "curse" the Yankees sold for $175,100 in a charity auction.

The Jimmy Fund, a cancer charity, didn't immediately reveal the name of the winning bidder after the week-long eBay auction closed today.

The bid was the highest of 282 for the battered David Ortiz jersey, which the Yankees jackhammered out from under two feet of concrete earlier this month.

A Bronx construction worker who is a Red Sox fan placed the jersey in wet concrete, hoping to hex the Yankees.

The Yankees decided to donate the recovered jersey to the official charity of the Red Sox. The winner also gets a new Ortiz jersey and two tickets to a Red Sox game.
