Many ways to treat Mom on her day

Advertiser Staff

May 11, Mother's Day, will be busy on the entertainment front. Here are three options:

  • Inspired by Honolulu Theatre for Youth's "Ferdinand the Bull," a fundraising Fashion Fiesta Children's Fashion Show and Luncheon will be held 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., May 4, at the Kahala Hotel & Resort.

More than 50 keiki of all ages will participate in the fashion event, featuring local retailers and designers.

HTY will conduct a hat contest for the fanciest, largest and funniest creation, and a silent auction will offer all manner of delights for kids and families. A Latin theme will spice up the menu, drinks and entertainment, with Spanish guitar from Ian Sullivan and Latin beats from emcee Rolando Sanchez.

Reservations: Tim Bostock, 521-9699 or tbp@artsatmarks.com. Tickets begin at $125, and ticket buyers are invited to register one child model for each pair of tickets.

  • Comedian Frank DeLima headlines two Mother's Day shows — a 10 a.m. brunch and 5:30 p.m. dinner — at the Pagoda Hotel's C'est Si Bon showroom, featuring songs and stand-up comedy, with backup group Na Kolohe.

The brunch is $40 for adults, $18.95 for children 3 to 10. Dinner is $48 for adults, $19.95 for ages 3 to 10. Reservations: 948-8370 or www.pagodahotel.com.

  • A Mother's Day Brunch with the Stars, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the JW Marriott Ihilani Resort & Spa at Ko Olina, features "American Idol" finalist Jasmine Trias, Grammy nominee Raiatea Helm and OC16 comedians Da Braddahs.

Trias finished third in "American Idol" season three, Helm is a multi-Na Hoku Hanohano Award winner known for her falsetto style, and Da Braddahs — Tony Silva and James Roache — star on OC16's "Da Braddahs and Friends" series.

Singer Kristian Lei and Hoku-winning group Kaukahi will also perform.

Tickets: $75 each, plus a $2.50 service charge per ticket.

    Reservations: 550-8457 or www.honoluluboxoffice.com.
