HILO
Police seek witnesses in attempted-murder case

A 29-year-old man charged Wednesday night by Hawai'i County police with attempted second-degree murder made his initial appearance yesterday at South Hilo District Court.

Anousack Hamilton of Hilo is accused of intentionally striking another man with his pickup truck during an argument. Police arrested Hamilton in a parking lot on Kalaniana'ole Street, where the alleged incident occurred.

Hamilton is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail at the Hawai'i Community Correctional Center pending his preliminary hearing today at District Court, said Area 1 Criminal Investigations Section Lt. Randall Medeiros.

The injured man, 23, suffered multiple fractures of his pelvis and legs. He was transferred from Hilo Medical Center to The Queen's Medical Center, where his condition is stable, police said.

The police response Wednesday night stemmed from calls of a man being run over by a vehicle. Police ask anyone who saw the incident to contact case Detective Reed Mahuna at 961-2384.
