Considering all the baggage Adam "Pacman" Jones carries, maybe it should be no surprise that his move to the Dallas Cowboys is going slowly — and carefully.

The Tennessee Titans agreed Wednesday to a deal sending the rights to the suspended cornerback to the Cowboys. But there are so many loose ends that need to be tied down that the trade was not finalized yesterday.

It might not happen today, either. Yet it seems likely to be settled by early tomorrow afternoon, in time for the start of the NFL draft. After all, the Titans are supposed to get Dallas' fourth-round pick.

"We're still in the process of finalizing the trade papers, the contracts, so it's a very complicated process with Dallas, the NFL, the player, ourselves," Titans general manager Mike Reinfeldt said yesterday. "So until that situation is finalized, we will not comment on it. However, as soon as it is finalized, we will have some type of get-together to address the situation in detail."

Cowboys spokesman Rich Dalrymple said team owner Jerry Jones likely will discuss the trade once it's done. However, he doesn't expect Pacman Jones to comment any time soon.

BRONCOS-JETS

DE ROBERTSON TRADED TO DENVER FOR DRAFT PICK

The Denver Broncos acquired defensive tackle Dewayne Robertson from the New York Jets yesterday for a conditional pick in the 2009 draft.

Robertson, the fourth overall pick in the 2003 draft from Kentucky, spent five inconsistent seasons with the Jets. He often seemed out of position in New York's 3-4 alignment.

The 26-year-old Robertson also has been bothered by knee problems.

"It's a great opportunity," said agent Hadley Engelhard, who's hoping to finalize a new deal for Robertson with the Broncos on Friday. "He's got the chance to showcase his abilities."

In 77 regular-season games (75 starts), Robertson has 319 tackles, 188 solo, and 14 1/2 sacks. He's forced four fumbles, recovered two, and had two pass breakups.

49ERS

OFFENSIVE LINEMAN BAAS OUT WITH TORN MUSCLE

San Francisco offensive lineman David Baas probably will be out until the regular season after tearing his right pectoral muscle.

Baas, the 33rd overall pick in the 2005 draft, was slated to start at right guard for the 49ers this season after starting nine games at the position last year. He will undergo surgery today after injuring himself while lifting weights last week.

Baas will miss at least part of training camp, likely including the preseason schedule in August.

NFL Draft: Clemson defensive end Phillip Merling worked out yesterday at Clemson, S.C. for more than two dozen NFL scouts, team officials and even Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder.

Merling is expected to be among the top defensive linemen taken in tomorrow's NFL draft. He had a groin injury and had not been able to work before yesterday. He spent about 25 minutes showing off his agility and speed.
