Autos: Nemechek steals pole from Stewart at Talladega

Associated Press

TALLADEGA, Ala. — Joe Nemechek has snatched the pole away from Tony Stewart with a late qualifying run at Talladega Superspeedway.

Nemechek was the 46th of 47 drivers to make a qualifying attempt, and his lap of 187.386 mph knocked Stewart from the top starting spot. Stewart, who ran a lap of 186.896, had gone out seventh and held down the pole for almost 3 hours before Nemechek beat him.

It was the first pole since 2005 for "Front Row Joe," a span of 93 races.
