Punahou beats No. 1 Saint Louis in baseball

Advertiser Staff

Four-time defending state champion Punahou defeated No. 1 Saint Louis, 11-9, today in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu baseball tournament at Ala Wai.

Punahou, which finished third in the ILH regular season, is unbeaten (3-0) in the double-elimination tournament and advances to the championship.

The Buffanblu will play the winner of the Saint Louis-Kamehameha game.

Saint Louis plays Kamehameha 3:45 p.m. Tuesday at Ala Wai with the winner playing Punahou 3:45 p.m. on Thursday.

If Punahou loses on Thursday, another game will be played 3:45 p.m. Friday for the tournament title.

Also today, Kamehameha edged Mid-Pacific, 6-5, eliminating the ILH runner-up and No. 2-ranked Owls from the tournament.

However, Mid-Pacific is still alive for a state berth.

Saint Louis, the ILH regular-season champion, already has secured one of three ILH state berths.

The winner of the ILH tournament gains the second berth, providing it is not Saint Louis.
