BUSINESS BRIEFS
Pride of America heads to drydock

Advertiser Staff

The last NCL cruise ship that will remain in regular service in the Hawaiian Islands — Pride of America — heads to scheduled drydock at Pearl Harbor this weekend.

Company officials say the Pride of America is scheduled to be at Pearl Harbor today through May 9. That would put the vessel back in interisland operation on May 10 before the Pride of Aloha leaves Hawaiian waters for Asia on May 11.

The Miami-based cruise company is significantly scaling back its interisland operations this year from three ships to one. The Pride of Hawaii was renamed and sent to Europe earlier this year. And the Pride of Aloha is headed for a new name and a new route in Asia next month.

The ship is due for U.S. Coast Guard inspection and overall assessment of the condition of the vessel while at the shipyard.

GAS PRICES CONTINUE TO SET RECORDS

Hawai'i gas prices continued their record-breaking ascent today, hitting an average record $3.78 statewide, according to AAA Hawaii.

That was up three cents a gallon from a week ago and up 63 cents from a year ago. Around the state, the average was $3.68 in Honolulu, $3.80 in Hilo and $4.10 in Wailuku. All the prices were records for the areas. The AAA doesn't report gas prices from Kaua'i, Lana'i or Moloka'i.

Hawai'i's average gas price was the third-highest in the nation behind No. 1 California at $3.89 a gallon and No. 2 Alaska at $3.80 a gallon.

Nationally, the average price for a gallon of regular hit a record high $3.58.

ALOHA PACIFIC FCU WARNS OF E-MAIL

Aloha Pacific Federal Credit Union said a fraudulent e-mail targeting its members was sent out yesterday and that it was getting a site linked to the phishing e-mail taken down.

The e-mail alerts people that they have a security message and that they need to click on a link to resolve the problem. That takes them to a Web site that's designed to look like Aloha Pacific's site, but asks credit card information and an automated teller machine PIN number.

Up until last year Aloha Pacific was known as the Honolulu City and County Employees Federal Credit Union. Aloha Pacific said it was also notifying members about the bogus e-mail.
