Mother's Day concert to feature Bach's works

A benefit concert featuring works of Johann Sebastian Bach from his years in Cothen will be 4 p.m. May 11, Mother's Day, at Lutheran Church of Honolulu, 1730 Punahou St.

On hand will be Darel Stark, violin; Evelyn Zuckerman, harpsichord, Katherine Crosier, organ; The Lutheran Church of Honolulu Choir and the Bach Chamber Orchestra, with Carl Crosier, conducting.

Bach's works are from his Cothen years, when he was a court musician under Prince Leopold von Anhalt-Cothen (1694-1728). The program will include Sonata III in E major for violin and harpsichord, BWV 1017; Orchestra Suite Nr. 1 in C major, BWV 1066, Organ Prelude and Fugue in D minor, BWV 539 and Cantata Nr. 23 "Du wahrer Gott und Davids Sohn."

Proceeds will benefit the Institute for Human Services.

Cost: $20 ($15 seniors, $12 full-time students). Free parking at 1817 Poki St.
