Walk @ Lunch tomorrow downtown

Advertiser Staff

Hundreds of workers are expected to take to the streets downtown from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. tomorrow for National Walk @ Lunch Day.

The event is sponsored by HMSA and focuses on fitness, friendship and fun, encouraging people to go walking during their workday as a way to get more physical activity.

In addition to organized walks, there will be health information booths and giveaways.

Hundreds of people are expected to participate in the walk around Bishop Square (walk route is along South King, Alakea, Hotel, and Bishop St.).

The first groups will start walking at 11:15 a.m. And walking at 11:30 a.m. At least five groups will be taking part.

Walkers should meet at Tamarind Park, located at South King St. and Bishop St.

Just 30 minutes of walking five times a week benefits the body's muscles, bones and joints.

It may also help prevent high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, diabetes, and other serious conditions.
