Make or break time for UH

The dream will end or, at best, be postponed for 31 University of Hawai'i football players.
Head coach Greg McMackin said he needs to reduce the roster to make room for recruits and "preferred" non-scholarship players who will join the Warriors this summer.
"It's a tough thing," McMackin acknowledged. "You're dealing with people's dreams."
The NCAA limits Division I-A teams to 105 players during training camp, which opens in August. The active roster may expand on the first day of instruction. UH's fall semester begins Aug. 25.
But the Warriors probably would be able to add only 13 more players because of limited locker-room space.
McMackin said cut players not added to the roster nor transferring will be allowed to try out for the Warriors next year.
"They need to find out what they need to work on to make the team," McMackin said. Being cut does not have "to be a forever thing."
Daniel Libre was once one of the players cut after spring practice. Libre worked his way back, and now he is listed as the co-No. 1 running back.
"We've reached a point where it's very competitive," McMackin said. "We have a lot of talent. Unfortunately, we can't keep everybody. It's not P.E. football."
The Warriors concluded spring training with Saturday's intrasquad game at Aloha Stadium. The coaches met yesterday to review the game, and to assess the roster.
McMackin said he will meet individually with the players this week, beginning today with the seniors.
McMackin said he will announce the cut list, noting it could change depending on the status of the incoming class.
McMackin also said he has not compiled an exit depth chart. But he said that Inoke Funaki and Tyler Graunke are "completely slashed" — tied — as the No. 1 quarterback.
"They are sliced," McMackin said. "Nobody is ahead."
Junior college quarterbacks Brent Rausch and Greg Alexander join the team in August. Both will have a fair chance to compete for the starting job.
McMackin said a No. 1 quarterback should be apparent after two weeks of training camp. McMackin said he does not plan to rotate quarterbacks during games.
NOA GETS CALL FROM JETS
Former UH defensive end Karl Noa has received an invitation to the New York Jets' rookie camp this weekend.
Noa leaves tomorrow for the three-day camp.
"Oh, man, I'm looking forward to the opportunity," Noa said. I'm glad I have a chance to do something."
Noa started every UH game at right defensive end last season. He was an outside linebacker in 2006, when the Warriors were in a 3-4 defensive alignment.
Noa, who is 6 feet 4 and 250 pounds, competed at the April 1 Pro Day in Carson, Calif. He ran 40 yards in 4.79 seconds, bench pressed 225 pounds 29 times, and had a vertical jump of 36 inches and broad jump of 10 feet, 1 inch.
He said he was not alarmed when he was not summoned during the past weekend's National Football League draft.
"To be honest, I didn't think I would get drafted," Noa said. "I was hoping to get a call (after the draft). I was trying to stay positive. (Yesterday) morning I was fortunate to get a call. I'm happy and grateful to have an opportunity."
