Suspected DUI police officer on paid leave

A Honolulu police officer charged with drunken driving has been placed on paid leave, pending an Internal Affairs investigation.

Police said James A. Urban, 31, who is assigned to the Kapolei patrol district, was driving a marked HPD vehicle while off-duty at the time of his arrest yesterday morning at 2:19 a.m.

Urban was arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant at the Kapolei station. He was released at 4 a.m. after posting $1,000 bail. Urban is scheduled to appear at 'Ewa District Court on May 27.

He is an HPD officer with four years experience.
