WAILUKU
Garbage left sitting at 1,100 homes with bill due

The county reports approximately 1,100 delinquent refuse-collection bills, and is advising these residents their accounts will be closed May 10 if payments are not made.

The fee for the first six-month period of the year is $72.

Trash collection at addresses with past-due accounts already has stopped, and refuse collectors are tagging and leaving behind garbage at those residences, according to the Department of Environmental Management.

Payments may be made at the Solid Waste Division office in Suite 225 at One Main Plaza in Wailuku . Office hours are 8 a.m. to noon Monday, Wednesday and Friday. For more information, call 270-7875.
