The Actors' Group presents "The Clean House," a Pulitzer Prize runner-up, written by Sarah Ruhl. It's a story about a married couple, both doctors, and their eccentric household, in what the author describes as "metaphysical Connecticut." The play is directed by Jacin Harter; the cast includes, from left, Jessica Kauhane and Catherine Fong. This is The Actors' Group's first production in its new home Downtown.

KSSK radio personalities Michael W. Perry and Larry Price will celebrate their 25th anniversary with a special Saturday Morning Show. Since 1983, with Perry on the left and Price on the right, they have hosted more than 7,000 morning radio shows together. The anniversary show will feature a breakfast buffet, live entertainment and a host of surprise guest stars; it will be simulcast on KSSK-AM and FM. The Saturday radiocast usually originates from John Dominis, but is relocating to the Hilton to accommodate a larger audience.

Local funny guy Augie T. brings his schtick to the Hawai'i Theatre in a concert that also features Willie K. The show is to be recorded live as a television event; and recipients of Augie's Speak the Dream Foundation scholarship will be acknowledged that night. If you didn't already know, Augie is a two-time Na Hoku Hanohano Award winner and can be heard daily on the radio airwaves as the host of The Zone 93.1 morning show.

CULTURE: AUG. 9

Celebrate the ancient chants, melodies and dances of Aotearoa (New Zealand) at the Polynesian Cultural Center's ninth annual Te Mana- hua Maori Cultural Competition. Local, national and international groups compete and will be judged on traditional chanting, action songs, original song compositions, poi dance, haka, entrances and exits.

Hawaiian Hall of Fame artistic director Ku'uipo Kumukahi joins her colleagues Kimo Stone, Dr. Isaac Akuna and Joe Winchester for a concert at the Atherton Performing Arts Studio. The quartet will perform songs from the 2008 Na Hoku Hanohano Award album of the year, "Na Lani 'Eha," showcasing the music of royal composers David Kalakaua, Lili'uokalani, Miriam Likelike and William Pitt Leleiohoku.

Cans of Spam, Campbell's Soup and more will be transformed at the third annual Canstruction Competition, presented by The American Institute of Architects, Honolulu Chapter, in which groups will creatively construct giant sculptures. The public can vote for their favorites via food donations during the two-week display throughout Pearlridge Center's Uptown. Winners will be announced Sept. 7 and all cans will be delivered to the Hawaii Foodbank.

CONCERT: AUG. 23

Join Cecilio and Kapono as they remember the good times together at "Back in the Day," a concert that celebrates their 35th anniversary. The concert title also is the name of the duo's newest single, and the event is part of the C&K 35 — Back in the Day U.S. Tour that begins Aug. 15 on Guam. Also performing that night are the groups Kalapana and Summer. A portion of the proceeds will go to Keiki O Ka 'Aina Family Learning Center.

Raise a glass and let out a "Kampai!" at The Joy of Sake 2008, featuring more than 300 sakes and visiting brewers from Japan. The event is the largest sake-tasting in the United States and celebrates the art of brewing. Food from Nobu Waikiki, Yoshi's from San Francisco, Chai's Island Bistro, Epic, Tokkuri-tei and more will be served to complement the sake.

No microphones, unamplified, just the soulful sounds of Hawaiian music, old-fashioned style, at the Ka Himeni Ana 2008 contest. The concert, presented by the Hawaii Music Hall of fame, features Hawai'i's up-and-coming musicians competing for monetary prizes and a recording contract with Hula Records; Haunani Apoliona, Nina Kealiiwahamana and Bill Kaiwa will serve as judges. There's also be a special performance by Manoa Voices, pictured, last year's winner. Marlene Sai hosts.
