UH tweaks parking plan at Aloha Stadium

Advertiser Staff

In response to feedback from fans, the University of Hawai'i said it is adjusting its premium parking policy at Aloha Stadium.

Season ticket holders who pay more than $400 in combined premium ticket fees and have multiple seats will not be restricted to purchasing a single reserved parking stall for Warrior football games, athletic director Jim Donovan said.

Donovan said for each multiple of four seats a reserved parking pass may be purchased.

"We believed criticism (of limiting reserved parking to one pass only) was legitimate and have adjusted the policy to make it more fair," Donovan said. "It didn't make sense for someone who had eight or 12 seats to be limited to one pass."

Reserved parking will require a $90-$150 charge depending upon location.

UH said it has gone to premium parking to raise operating revenues, provide scholarships and help alleviate traffic problems.

Season ticket holders who contribute $200 or more and raise their level of contribution to $400 or more will also be eligible to purchase reserved parking if spaces remain, UH said.

UH has expanded its hold on reserved parking spaces from 1,900 last year to 3,000 this season. The stadium lot holds 8,000.

Approximately 5,000 stalls will still be available for the $5 per game charge on a first-come basis and additional off-site parking will be available at Richardson Field and other locations, UH said. Approximately 28,500 seats at Aloha Stadium carry premium charges of $34 to $200 for season tickets. The remaining 21,500 do not require premium charges.
