Baseball: Ken Griffey Jr. leaves game with cramping

Associated Press

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Ken Griffey Jr. left the Chicago White Sox game against Kansas City in the sixth inning today with what the club said was heat-related cramping in his right leg.

A spokesman said Griffey, playing his second game for the White Sox after coming over in a trade with Cincinnati, would be day to day. The temperature at game time was 95 degrees with a heat index of 111.

Griffey was 0-for-2 and made an outstanding shoestring catch in center field in the second inning. Dewayne Wise pinch hit for him leading off the sixth with the Royals leading 8-3.
