Music industry sues Mich. St. golf coach in illegal download case

Associated Press

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Michigan State University's women's golf coach is a target in the music industry's national campaign against illegal downloading.

A federal lawsuit alleges Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll illegally used peer-to-peer file copying networks and distribution systems to obtain or share 73 copyrighted audio files.

The Grand Rapids Press says the 36-year-old Slobodnik-Stoll is accused of using an Internet protocol address issued by Michigan State. The East Lansing school was served with a subpoena to determine it was her computer, according to the lawsuit and the Recording Industry Association of America.

The civil suit seeks an unspecified amount of damages for seven media conglomerates, including Warner Bros. and Sony.

Slobodnik-Stoll declined comment on the allegations. A message seeking comment was left Saturday with Michigan State spokesman Terry Denbow.
