Kahekili off-ramp reopens after bus-car crash

Advertiser Staff

The Honolulu Police Department has reopened the Kahekili off-ramp from the Kane'ohe-bound Likelike Highway following a collision between a tour bus and six vehicles at around 12:45 p.m. today, according to authorities.

Details of the accident were sketchy, but Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for Emergency Medical Services, said a total of nine people — eight from the bus and one from one of the vehicles — were taken in stable condition to two area hospitals.

Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. Terry Seelig said a 25-person tour bus filled with Japanese visitors was involved in a collision with six passenger vehicles on the Kahekili off-ramp.

Seelig said he didn't know how many people were inside the passenger vehicles when the accident occurred.

Police, EMS and HFD units were all called to the scene due to the number of vehicles and people involved, said Seelig. He said the off-ramp was reopened at around 3 p.m.
