Interfaith speaker at First Unitarian

Alan Spector will discuss "Marriage Makes a 'Word' of Difference" at the Interfaith Open Table, 7 a.m. Wednesday at the First Unitarian Church, 2500 Pali Highway.

Spector is co-director of Family Equality Coalition in Hawai'i and has been active in the Freedom To Marry movement since 1999. He is employed with the Hawai'i Department of Health — Adult Mental Health Division.

SESSION ON PRAYER AT CENTRAL UNION

A session on Centering Prayer and Inner Awakening will be from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Aug. 16 at Central Union Church's women's building, 1660 S. Beretania St.

The introductory class is free, but books and tapes on contemplative practices and the spiritual journey will be available for loan and sale.

TOURS OFFERED OF LDS TABERNACLE

The Honolulu, Hawai'i Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will host an open house from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Aug. 16 at the Honolulu Tabernacle, 1560 South Beretania St.

The open house will feature guided tours of the tabernacle, which was dedicated Aug. 17, 1941.

The Honolulu Hawai'i Stake Choir will perform at 11 a.m. and noon in the tabernacle. The choir is led by Craig Young, director of orchestras at Punahou School. Light refreshments will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

CHURCH WORKSHOP ON FORGIVING

Unity Church of Hawaii will host a workshop on "Forgiving the Unforgivable" with Brenda Adelman at 7 p.m. Thursday at the church, 3608 Diamond Head Circle.

The $20 workshop will discuss heart-centered learning.
