Leeward beach parks night closure update

Tracks, Nanakuli (Cove and Beach), Lualualei No. 2 and Pokai Bay parks will remain closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Aug. 11, Mayor Mufi Hannemann's office announced recently.

The overnight closure started on July 28 and is the first of several Leeward Coast beach closures that will be taking place in response to requests from residents and applicable Neighborhood Boards concerned with ensuring that the parks be kept safe and clean.

Plans call for Ulehawa No. 2 (the area between Nani Kai and Ma'ili across from the 7-Eleven store) to also be closed from Sept. 28 at 10 p.m to Oct. 3 at 3 p.m. for extensive cleaning and maintenance.Starting Oct. 3, the park is to be closed every night from 10 pm to 5 am.

Plans also call for Lualualei No. 1 (also known as "Sewers") to be closed from Oct. 12 at 10 p.m. to Oct. 17 at 3 p.m. for extensive cleaning and maintenance.
