Money released to replace Halawa Stream bridge

Advertiser Staff

Gov. Linda Lingle released $656,060 last week in additional construction funds to replace the Honolulu-bound section of the Halawa Stream Bridge on Kamehameha Highway.

The bridge, built more than 60 years ago, needs to be replaced to meet current design standards, including load and seismic requirements.

The new bridge will be wider and provide sidewalks and bridge railings for pedestrian traffic, the governor's office said.

Total cost of the project is estimated to be $11,646,829.

Construction is ongoing and scheduled to be completed in September 2009.
