Hit-and-run suspect released pending investigation

Advertiser Staff

Police today released a 37-year-old carpet installer, who had been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run death, without filing charges against him.

Police released Arnel Ulep Abuluyan pending further investigation. Abuluyan had been held in connection with the July 22 death of David Wayne Aldridge II.

Abuluyan, an Abbey Carpet & Floors installer, was arrested Saturday afternoon at his home on 'Oliana Street in Waialua.

Abuluyan was assigned the 2006 GMC Savannah van that was seized by police as evidence in the hit-and run.

Police made the arrest based on a tip.

Aldridge, 18, was riding his bicycle home after working a shift at a Burger King restaurant when he was hit about 1:35 a.m. along Kamehameha Highway near Dole Plantation by a vehicle described at the time as a speeding flatbed red truck that veered onto the road shoulder.

A passing motorist spotted Aldridge in the grass next to the highway and contacted the authorities. Aldridge died about 5 a.m. at The Queen's Medical Center.
