Weather: Sunny with occasional showers today

A strengthening high pressure area far north of the state will build the trade winds of the next few days, shifting most rain showers to windward areas, the National Weather Service forecast for Hawaii said.

The showers will be light at first, but are expected to increase was the week wears on, according to the forecast.

Here's a closer look wat what to expect the rest of the work week:

Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 86. East wind between 14 and 16 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Tonight: Isolated showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 74. East wind around 16 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Wednesday: Isolated showers after noon. Partly cloudy, with a high near 87. East wind between 15 and 17 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Wednesday Night: Isolated showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 74. East wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Thursday: Scattered showers after noon. Partly cloudy, with a high near 87. East wind between 15 and 17 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Thursday Night: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 74. East wind around 17 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Friday: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 87. Breezy, with a east wind between 17 and 23 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Friday Night: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 74. Breezy, with a east wind around 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
