Big Island police seeking bicycle crash witnesses

Big Island police are looking for witnesses to a bicycle crash that occurred July 27 in Kailua, Kona.

A 51-year-old Kailua, Kona man was riding his bike west on Henry Street at approximately 2:15 p.m. when he apparently lost control and hit his head on a light pole east of the entrance to Lanihau Shopping Center.

He was taken to Kona Community Hospital and then transferred to The Queens Medical Center in Honolulu, where he remains in critical condition.

Police ask anyone who may have seen the crash to call Officer Darren Cho at 808-326-4646, ext. 253 or the Police Department's nonemergency line at 808-935-3311. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call CrimeStoppers at 808-961-8300 in Hilo or 808-329-8181 in Kona. All CrimeStoppers information is kept confidential.
