People living under Kailua bridge are removed

Advertiser Staff

Police and the city today removed people who were living under a bridge at Kailua Beach Park.

Officers and city workers took the action this morning at the Kawailoa Bridge that spans Kaelepulu Stream, said Bill Brennan, city spokesman.

The city departments of park and recreation, and facility maintenance assisted police with the removal of furniture, trash and other items from under the bridge, Brennan said in an e-mail.

Police and the city were working together to address complaints from the community, said police spokeswoman Michelle Yu, adding that officers have helped with the removal of homeless before. No arrests were made, Yu said.

The number of people removed was not available.
