'Red Flag' fire warning in effect from 10 a.m. today

Advertiser Staff

The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for leeward and central portions of all islands due to strong trade winds and low humidity. The warning will be in effect from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today, the Weather Service said.

Strengthening trade winds under a dry and stable air mass will bring low relative humidity, especially in the afternoon, creating critical fire weather conditions, weather officials said.

The warning may be extended as similar weather conditions are expected to persist for the next few days.

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will be shortly.

A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures will create the potential for rapid fire growth.
