KAPOLEI
Free concert Saturday to honor Mother Marianne

A concert by the Royal Hawaiian Band Saturday evening at Kapolei Hale will honor the life of Mother Marianne Cope, who helped bring the Sisters of St. Francis to Hawai'i 125 years ago.

The free, 45-minute concert starts at 5:30 p.m., on the 90th anniversary of Cope's death.

Cope spent 30 years ministering to Hansen's disease patients in Kalaupapa, succeeding Father Damien.

Among the music to be performed at the concert will be "The Ode to St. Anne," a piece that the Royal Hawaiian Band premiered in 1917 in a presentation to Cope and her patroness, St. Anne.
