Weather: Mostly cloudy with a few showers today

Breezy trade winds will continue through Saturday as a strong high pressure area maintains its position far north of the islands, the National Weather Service said.

Clouds and showers carried by the trades will affect mainly windward and mauka areas, but may drift over leeward areas at times, according to the forecast.

The trades will back off a bit to more moderate levels beginning on Sunday and stay that way until the middle of the new week, forecasters said.

Here's how the weekend is shaping up:

Today: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 87. East wind between 15 and 17 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Tonight: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 75. East wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Saturday: Isolated showers. Partly cloudy, with a high near 87. East wind between 15 and 17 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Saturday Night: Isolated showers. Partly cloudy, with a low around 74. East wind around 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Sunday: Isolated showers. Partly cloudy, with a high near 87. East wind between 14 and 16 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Sunday Night: Isolated showers. Partly cloudy, with a low around 74. East wind around 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
