JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Jaguars signed free agent defensive tackle Jesse Mahelona while placing rookie defensive tackle Tywain Myles on the waived-injured list.

Mahelona, a Kealakehe and Tennessee alum from Kailua, Kona, was signed on Thursday.

Mahelona, 25, was waived by the Tennessee Titans after the first game of the 2007 season. The 6-0, 311-pound defensive tackle played in 10 games with one start as a rookie in 2006 after being drafted by the Titans in the fifth round of the draft. He recorded 21 tackles and one sack.

The Jaguars will have as many as 10 players sidelined with injuries Saturday in their preseason opener against the Atlanta Falcons.

Coach Jack Del Rio said receivers Jerry Porter (hamstring) and Reggie Williams (knee), center Brad Meester (biceps), defensive end Jeremy Mincey (wrist), tight end George Wrighster (knee) and safety Chad Nkang (wrist) are on the physically unable to perform list.

In addition, the team could be without defensive back Brian Williams, defensive end Reggie Hayward, wide receiver Troy Williamson and defensive tackle Derek Landri. All had limited practice time this week.
