Grizzlies sign Josh Smith to offer sheet

Associated Press

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis Grizzlies signed restricted free-agent forward Josh Smith of the Atlanta Hawks to an offer sheet today.

Atlanta has seven days to match the offer. Neither Wallace Prather, Smith's agent, nor the Grizzlies would give details and the Hawks declined comment.

The Hawks drafted the 6-foot-9, 235-pound Smith out of high school in the first round in 2004.

Smith averaged 17.2 points, 8.2 rebounds and 2.8 blocks in helping the Hawks make the playoffs last season.

Also Friday, the Grizzlies renounced their rights to free agents Casey Jacobsen and Andre Brown.

Jacobsen, a guard, averaged 2.0 points and 1.2 rebounds in 53 games last season and Brown, a forward, averaged 3.0 points and 2.8 rebounds in 33 games.
