Pacific Island Properties ordered to remove tires from vacant lot

Advertiser Staff

The state Department of Health has ordered Pacific Island Properties LLC to remove tires from a vacant lot on Hanua Street in Kapolei because they pose a potential health or safety hazard.

The state said it sent the company a letter in January 2006 noting that tires on the property needed to be removed within 180 days.

In August 2007 it followed up with a warning letter that noted about 40,000 tires remained on the property and that they needed to be removed within three months.

In March of this year the state said about 30,000 waste tires remained on the property.

The order requires Pacific Island to properly removed the tires and transport them to a solid waste management facility or an out-of-state recycler. It said Pacific Island has 90 days to comply or contest the allegations or order.
